If you want cold sore treatment care for yourself or another, then you definitely arrived at the correct place. Keep in mind that the sooner you start utilizing a viable cold sore treatment, the faster and better the results - so keep reading.
The herpes simplex virus is invariably to blame for any outbreaks of herpes lesions. In the course of replicating new virus offspring, it damages a multitude of facial nerve cells. This causes the unwelcome ulcerated sores.
These unattractive outbreaks are highly uncomfortable. Cold sores are disconcerting to oneself and to those who visit with you. Commonly outbreaks are formed by several small blisters that merge into one gigantic open sore.
Technicians have not currently discovered a method to thoroughly banish the herpes virus from your body. Please do not be upset though. We all can discourage this parasite virus, and keep it asleep, with a good cold sore treatment plan.
Ice chips are a particularly strong cold sore treatment, if applied correctly. It can cut down on pain, reduce swollen tissue and lower the infection local fever. Be sure, though, to not use the treatment with ice cubes after the lesion becomes open. Now the sore is in the cell regeneration phase and you would be wise to move forward using hot compresses.
Black tea has a buffet of highly medicinal cell rejuvenation nutrients. Hold a damp tea bag against the target spot for a five-minute treatment every two or three hours.
When your blister has finally broken open and hot compresses is now a recommended cold sore treatment, make use of the warm tea bag to apply the heat and see amazingly amplified benefits.
Witch hazel is a neat trick for aiding in drying out a cold sore lesion. This results in faster cell repair. Peppermint oil blended with virgin olive oil will assist in soothing the sore area and increase your results.
Quite a few people claim an excellent outcome applying a home-made salve made from powdered sugar and water. Sugar has proven quite effective when coping with infections. Even more convenient, try raw honey for amazing healing.
Nature-provided treatments and healing agents frequently include peppermint, licorice, onion, Echinacea or celery. You could use these singularly or concoct your private cure.
The above mentioned herbage perform very well as anti-viral medications. They also help give our disease prevention factors a significant increase in strength for faster removal and resistance to return of the sore.
Echinacea, besides being a powerful herb for cold sores, can also act as a dehydration treatment. Beside all that, Echinacea is quite helpful in protecting you from nearly any virus battle.
Repeated sanitizing of the lesion is highly useful. This may hinder a secondary bacterial infection, which might especially complicate the effects and add time to healing. For many folks, hydrogen peroxide performs very suitable for this.
Cleansing yourself internally will be of great benefit to you and could be accomplished easily by consuming a lot of water. If you will, steer clear of any alcohol-containing drinks other than a heavy beer or a genuine red wine.
Having reoccurring cold sores is a real bother and certainly unacceptable. Several small alterations in your daily life or food choices could reduce this problem.
Stress, whether body or mind, is one of the top originators of cold sores. Take whatever method you like to reduce stress. In your diet, avoid acidifying consumables such as sugar, white flour and highly processed foods. Acidic tissue creates the ideal environment for herpes virus attacks.
The herpes simplex virus is freely passed on to friends or various locations on your body. Employ reasonable cautions, particularly when there is a visibly active sore.
The herpes virus is most often passed on by full touch with an active infection. Be careful of making out or any similar behavior during an outbreak. Do not share drinking glasses, towels or any mutual objects that could be contaminated. Do not contact your sore with your unprotected fingers and wash your hands regularly.
Doing what you can to not get these outbreaks is the very best cold sore treatment, and the simplest to attain. You should see very few sores if you keep in mind healthy options and ways.
It could be wise to search for and test other cold sore treatment options. Hardly ever will you find a special formula that will give best results for everyone. You are unique in your needs and you will use some that perform better than other choices. The trick to happiness is to find and use the cold sore remedies that give you the best results.
To heal and prevent your outbreaks, maintain your immune system at its highest possible level. This requires an eye on nutritional foods, physical activity, water consumption and good sleep. It could be a good thing to abstain from tobacco products. Practicing a healthy lifestyle is the best way to limit cold sores and the resulting necessity for cold sore treatment.

With all the home remedies for cold sores circulating in the press and on the internet, you would think that everybody is affected with this malady. The truth is that more than 75% of the population is probably infected. Thankfully, the nasty little virus that causes cold sores, HSV-1, stays dormant most of the time. Once triggered, you would be well equipped to handle the outbreak if you know what works and what does not. We will talk about that in one minute but I would also like to include a few commercially available products that are available without a prescription simply because this second group of preparations includes the only F.D.A. approved medicine which will actually shorten the healing time and the duration of symptoms.
So, what home remedies for cold sores actually work? While this list includes many preparations from around the house, it can be safely assumed that not all of them will work for all people. We humans are very unique animals with different chemistries and such. Our individual state of diet, exercise, oxygenation and nutrition, plus our state of acidity or alkalinity is rather dramatically diverse from one person to another. All these factors and more will have a direct affect on how these home remedies for cold sores will or will not work for you! This list includes:
  • Ice pack applied to sores for 5min every hour
  • Damp teabag applied to the sore for 5 min every hour
  • Toothpaste, with sodium bicarbonate dabbed on the sore
  • Cold milk on a cotton square dabbed on the sore
  • Vicks vapo-rub dabbed on the sore
  • Apple Cider Vinegar in tablets or liquid
  • Common table salt pressed onto the sore
  • Teas of Echinacea, Peppermint, Hawthorne
  • Teas of Orange Peel, Rose Hips, Chamomile
  • Aloe Vera Ointment or the plant juice applied to the sore
  • Spirit of Camphor applied to the sore
  • Witch Hazel applied to the sore
And countless other homeopathic herbs and spices such as Herbal sage, violet, uva ursi, astrugalus, honey, oregano oil, olive oil, garlic, licorice, tea tree oil, lemon balm extract and coconut oil. Last but certainly not least is Lysine. This essential amino acid has been found to be lacking in individuals who get many outbreaks. As such, supplementing the diet with Lysine can certainly be at the top of the list of home remedies for cold sores.
If you have tried any of the above recommendations with little success, you might want to turn your attention to those preparations that are available over the counter without a prescription. The list of ingredients in these products runs the gamut from anesthetics, to moisturizers, to skin protectants, to drying agents, to antibacterials (even though we are dealing with a virus not a bacteria) and a true anti-viral, the only one approved for over the counter sale. The list is rather extensive and includes such well known names as:
  • Zilactin
  • Releev
  • Zicam cold sore gel
  • Nexcare cold sore treatment
  • Campho-Phenique
  • Ora Gel cold sore brush
  • Neosporin cold sore preparation
  • Abreva
This last entry, Abreva, is a true anti-viral chemical known as Docosanol. It works by stopping the virus from combining with human cell plasma membranes thus arresting viral replication. If you have never tried it, you should as you will be pleasantly surprised at how quickly the sore will heal.

The answer is yes and no!
Lysine (an amino-acid found in your food) has been used for a long time in herpes prevention. Some people experience tremendous success and some are left with no result at all. But why?
It is recommended that you follow these simple rules to maximize your chance of success:
 Have a somewhat healthy diet
Watch the arginine-rich food that you consume
Add Vitamin C and Zinc supplements to your Lysine supplements
Have the right Lysine intake everyday
If you meet these four conditions, Lysine supplements will be a powerful ally in your fight against cold sores. Let's visit these four conditions in more details:
1-Have a somewhat healthy diet
What you eat can directly affect your immune system. No amount of Lysine will save you if your immune system is weakened. Avoid processed, packaged and fast food; they are packed with trans-fat and sodium. Soft drinks (diet or regular) and refined sugar are a big no-no if you suffer from herpes. Try to include fresh and unprocessed food in your diet and replace soft drinks with sparkling water. Of course you can indulge once in a while!
2- Watch the arginine-rich food that you consume
Arginine is an amino-acid found in virtually any food that you eat. Arginine by itself is not evil; the problem is that it's the favorite 'food' used by the Herpes Simplex Virus to replicate. High levels of arginine in your cells appear to cue the herpes virus to begin the replication process. Try to avoid all kinds of nuts (peanut butter included), seeds, chocolate, raisins, coconut and body building supplements rich in arginine.
3- Add Vitamin C and Zinc supplements to your Lysine supplements
Combining the anti-oxidant effect of vitamin C and the immune system booster effect of zinc to Lysine is recommended.
4- Have the right Lysine intake everyday
A study shows that the intake of 1500mg per day (3x500mg) of Lysine may be beneficial in herpes prevention. In case of any signs of outbreaks, up to 3000mg (3x1000mg) of Lysine is advised. But Lysine can be found in food too! Vegetables, dairy products, tuna and poultry are very rich in Lysine.
So, stay out of trans-fat, refined sugar, artificial sweeteners and give a chance to fresh vegetables and good quality meat. Take your Lysine 3 times a day before each meal, combined it with Vitamin C and Zinc and you should be able to control your cold sore outbreaks!

Looking for a good home remedy for cold sores? While you will hear about all types and kinds of a home remedy for cold sores, there are a few that have been shown to work. For anyone who has suffered with a cold sore you know how painful it can be. And since they will typically last from 10-14 days, finding relief becomes a priority. Give one of these tips a try the next time you, or someone you know, develops a cold sore.
Ice - When you start to feel a cold sore coming on, take an ice cube and wrap it in a thin cloth. Apply it on the spot where your sore is starting to hurt and keep it there for as long as possible. Continue to do this 3-4 times a day. What the ice will do is deaden the blister that is trying to appear. This method will work if you begin doing the moment you start feeling a cold sore is coming on. If you wait until it already has appeared, it's too late.
Aloe Vera - This home remedy for cold sores will work if you your cold sore does blister on you. Take a leaf from an aloe vera plant and rub the liquid from it onto your cold sore blister. It may sound strange, but it gives results. Do this a few times a day and at night. Within a day or two your cold sore will be gone. I know people who will grow aloe plants in their home just for this very reason.
Vitamin B - Taking vitamin B supplements has been shown to help get rid of a cold sore. Vitamin B-12 works especially well.
Tea Tree Oil - Many people say this is the best home remedy for cold sores. This is a drink that contains tea tree oil, herbal sage, and violet. These ingredients are mixed together with a couple sage leaves and ginger powder, and put in with a cup of boiling water. Drink this 2-3 times a day and within a couple of days your cold sore will be gone.
Coconut Oil - Take 100ml of coconut oil, 2ml of dettol, and 3ml or carbolic acid and mix them together. Apply twice daily directly on your cold sore. Some people say this formula also works on boils and mosquito bites.
Other Home Remedy For Cold Sores - Witch hazel, spirit of camphor and lemon balm extract are said to work.
There are also some foods that you do not want to eat when experiencing a cold sore. These foods will only make the problem worse. Avoid eating chocolate, oatmeal, seeds, peas, nuts, and any wheat products. Why? Because arginine is in these foods and they are a cold sores friend. Other salty foods, and even coffee can cause a cold sore to linger.
The next time you feel a cold sore coming on, give one of these tips a try and see if it doesn't give you the relief you're looking for. Finally, a good home remedy for cold sores.

Cold sores or fever blisters are viral infections caused by culprits from the Herpesviridae family. Herpesviridae encompasses a large group of viruses, named from the word "herpes" derived from Greek etymology, which means, "to creep." Oral herpes, otherwise known as herpes labialis, or in layman's term, cold sores, is often caused by herpes simplex virus type I, although there are some cases wherein such blisters are caused by type II. They are highly contagious, judging by the fact that they are transmitted through close contact such as kissing; sharing of dining utensils such as spoons or drinking mugs or even toothbrushes; perinatally, that is, from mother to offspring during delivery, especially when the mother exhibits visible blisters; and sexually, especially for those with multiple partners.
Cold sores are blisters found most often in the mouth, especially on the portion of the lips - however, it can be transferred to other various parts of the body such as in the fingers, leading to the so-called "herpetic whitlow," which is usually seen in children with canker sores that suck their fingers; it can also be transferred to the genitalia, typically noted in sexual partners engaged in oral sex.
Cold sores are most highly infectious at times when the blisters are popping out. Sometimes, the viruses in canker sore can enter the neurons and become dormant or latent. However, they may regain activity or become reactivated and multiply again, leading to the formation of blisters. Causes of reactivation of fever blisters are still unexplained; however, such reactivation can be triggered by stress, exposure to radiation, fever or flu, hormonal changes or traumatic experience.
During infection, affected individuals with cold sores would fail to exhibit visible signs and symptoms. However, blisters may then appear a week or two after the initial invasion of the viral particles.
Cold sores may be difficult to differentiate, especially with other blister-forming disorders. With this in mind, it is therefore important to remember that fever blisters should not to be mistaken with canker sores. This can be emphasized by the fact that the latter can be caused by several factors such as stress, bacteria or virus, injuries to the mouth especially in contact sports or when drinking hot or acidic stuffs or when accidentally biting the lips or inside of the cheeks or in cases where dentures or braces are applied. In addition, canker sores heal on its own and are often found inside the mouth; whereas cold sores are mostly found outside the mouth and in the lips.
Since most viral infections are self-limiting, added by the fact that canker sores are indeed a form of viral infection, treatment would then mainly revolve around pain alleviation - ice compress to numb and soothe the pain as well as application of petroleum jelly or lip balm/moisturizers are primary remedies. Administration of ointments such as Zovirax and Abreva can decrease the duration of outbreak and blister formation.
We ought to say that prevention is better than cure. The primary way to prevent the spread of the virus that causes cold sores includes non-sharing of personal thing and, having safe sexual contact with partners. Moreover, frequent hand washing is a must in order to break the chain of infection.
Help yourself rid of cold sores today by trying out these cold sore remedies. One of the most effective solution for canker sore is to use home remedies for cold sores.
